How do you solve a problem like Maria?

When you provide a service, you ultimately provide the solution to a problem. Even luxury services still provide some sort of relief. In this blog post, we will dive into questions you can ask to help yourself brainstorm. At the end of it, you should be able to identify and solve a problem… and start talking about them in your messaging.

What solution are you selling?

If you are an expert at something, and a client hires you to do your expert-thingy, it is your job to know what the client doesn’t know she wishes she knew. They are coming to you to help them solve a problem, even if they are not sure what that is yet.

As service providers, it is our job to know and to try help our clients understand what they need too.

Is there something that your ideal clients typically always complain about? What noise do they make – either on social media, Internet forums or in person?

How can you empathise to solve a problem?

They say that you are considered you a good friend if you have a strong ability to listen. The same can be said for providing a service. If you can listen to someones problem – then you may just have the expertise to be able to solve it.

Become curious about the people that you want to serve. Put yourself in their shoes. Listen intently and make notes – rather than trying to jump in and fix things. Try to understand other people’s individuality and unique qualities. Look for common denominators, traits or similarities that keep coming up.


Common problems you can solve:

  •  Saving someone time
  •  Information that they may not have access to
  • Easing the difficulty of something
  • Lack of inspiration or education
  • Misunderstanding
  • Mindset changes
  • Lack of strategy or direction


Be definitive.

When you are problem solving, ask yourself the below questions. Equally important, they can help you get specific and definitive.

  1. What is the problem?
  2. When did it happen?
  3. Where did it happen?
  4. What is the total impact of this problem on my clients business?

It can be much easier to solve a problem when you start to define exactly what that looks like.

Ultimately, the objective of problem solving is to turn the negative outcomes that you have just defined into positive results. To do so, the causes that produced the unwanted outcomes must be identified. This is where the analysis of the problem comes in.

Dig a little deeper, ask more “why” questions and test test test!
